These are a pair of backgrounds that I did for the subeta human avatars a good while back. They've been released for a few months, and finished for even longer. I kept meaning to upload them, but forgot. XD
I actually dislike the use of backgrounds on avatars most of the time. I think they're usually pretty tacky and out of place. That doesn't mean they aren't darn fun to draw, though. It's a shame to enjoy drawing something so much, but to also not really want to see it used, since it clutters HA so much. XD
(These are the only backgrounds I've ever done for avatars. ^might be why. I do really love drawing landscapes though.)
This isn't the working size, but I figured you guys would like the slightly smaller versions more than the full version.
For those who don't play subeta: These background items come from a set of clothing trunks with a mermaid theme.

It's kind of different for every artist. I personally prefer to work in 200x on all things except for things like maps and backgrounds like these. Something about landscape demands I work larger. But that's just because that is something comfortable for me, and I know myself well enough to know that those are the setting that can produce optimal quality from me. However, artists who are heavier handed or prefer to work larger or with a different brush setting than mine would likely find mine awkward and cumbersome.
I can't really tell you flat out what settings to use, since it's different for everyone. your artists ought to know what is most comfortable for themselves, though. Just so long as no one is working at the final size/100% (Though that applies to all artwork in general), it should turn out alright. Good luck.

Like these, if I had them I'd want to use them so bad but..it's hard to.
What do you think of backgrounds like the Seashell Memento (the things that's just the beach)?
