Like.
ugh.
There is something wrong with my brain.
Logically, one would assume that you guys like me for my art, my style. It's why you're watching me, isn't it?
I fffffff....ffffffffffffffffff. -fizzles out on a cussword- I didn't even want to say it anyway. I hate. ugh.
There is something wired incorrectly with my brain. You give me references, I start to draw, only.. I'm looking at every detail of that reference, and my trying to match a style that isn't my own.
Get frustrated.
give up.
Wait a few months, feel like a jerk, still be unable to imitate ... fdfsdfsfffffffff thing. I'm /thinking/ "I should just draw this in my style."
But my style doesn't look like that. They're doing to end up with something THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT, BECAUSE MY STYLE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THAT.
This isn't like ..being able to draw a dogwood tree, and then being able to draw a willow. Or being able to draw a tiger, and then being able to draw a cheetah.
I could draw a cheetah in my own style, and.. it still looks like a cheetah, but it's mine.
But I can't seem to make myself function on the same level when I'm drawing someone else's character, because it is already stylized. If EVERY single ref has the same style of eyes, I HAVE to draw them. but I'm not comfortable drawing eyes like.. say... kotenia does, or like vani does. They're lovely eyes. I'm just not comfortable doing them. I feel like i'm de stylizing it, and like. raping the hell out of it, if I draw it in the way I would normally feel comfortable. I can't even really begin, because my mind is screaming at me, "NO THIS IS WRONG OMG WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING, STOP."
So.
T_T
-goes to draw a piece of art she hates, in someone else's style, so it at least looks like the character, instead of someone drawing german shepherd markings on a collie's body.-
this sucks.
[edit]
You know what, Deviantart?
You're a jerk. i got all my righteous frustration out , because you went down two for system maintenance for FOREVER, two minutes after I posted this.
THANKS FOR RUINING MY FIT OF UPSET, DA. You suck, too.
XD
Devious Comments
DRAW IT IN YOUR STYLE YOU CRAZY TREELING.
That's why people try to get you to draw for them, no? D:
I kinda know what you mean..
I have to work to get my own characters and just ordinary things, like a nondescript dog, to look decent so when it comes to fanart.. I get frustrated. And nervous.
Because I either end up copying their style and feel cheap because of it, or murder the character design by drawing it the way I would normally draw. Sometimes to the point that I don't even feel it's recognizable. And then I worry that they're going to hate it.
I imagine lots of people feel the same way, but just try to remember that people request things from you because they're already in love with the way you draw. Part of the joy of getting fanart is seeing how other people interpret something you created.
It's fine if you still wanna try mixing your own style and theirs a little bit, but try stressing about it less.
ever.
but they are.
The sad thing is that i LOVE this character that I'm working on right now. think it's beautiful. I'm just not comfortable drawing it.

Life is not about how fast you run, or how high you climb, but how well you bounce.
-comments on really old art because is often a lazy procrastinator.- (sorry. XD)
The whole reason I ever commish people or do trades is because I want to see my character in a style that ISN'T mine, in a way that I would have never seen before, had this other artist not done it there way. The point of commissions and trades is not for a carbon copy, its for something new all together.
stop beating yourself up over nothing... I still have that pic you drew of Rei and Arbor fursona... and I still absolutely love how you drew rei... in your style... Your art is beautifull, its why people like it, its why people want it. People don't commission or trade with you to see if you can copy them... so.... simmer love D: <3

Fan Art, Original, and Textiles, OH MAI D8!
For example, Aaron Alexovitch: [link] His comments over some of the things he's been asked to draw... you'd never have guessed it from the result.
Never think so hard about what other people might think because what you wind up with (in your style) doesn't entirely match the image they've thrown at you. I'm sure they're not looking for a carbon copy anyway.

The bunnies are watching you...
But yeah, as far as I gather, one's character in other styles is kind of the point of commissioning people to draw them. Maybe you should like ... once given a reference for a character to draw, look over a bunch of other stuff by the person who drew the ref for a while, to get used to the style it's in and be able to view it with some neutrality or something more like you would with a photograph of a hypothetical cheetah which you wouldn't try to match for realism.

"Life is not peaceful," said Snufkin contentedly.
I still say you should draw it your own way- the way you draw is amazing, and I'm sure they'll love it anyway? c:
I normally just take someones character, draw the animal how I normally would then shove the markings on
Don't stress 8D people obviously want your art for your style, if they wanted their character.. in their style
then they would draw it them self
your style is gorgeous anyway <3
