Shopping for skeletons!

Wed Feb 18, 2009, 9:28 AM
No, seriously, I'm shopping for skeletons.

[link]

Like that (I'm not buying that specific one, just showing what I mean by skeletons shopping.) It doesn't HAVE to be full sized, although I'd like one of a decent size, at least. (EXCEPT. omg. there are these tiny tiny fully posable desk skeletons that just delight me. All the ones I'll browsed have had really thick bones though, and I dont want something clunky. but they're so hilarious and tiny and cute. XD) And I would prefer spine flexibility (And obviously movable joints), and being able to remove it from the stand.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experience shopping for one of these, and has any comments on what they expected/what they really recieved. It is also really, REALLY hard to find female model skeletons of any decent quality. Or at least, it has been for me. XD

The art of BOLT cameeeee, yes! It looks glorious so far. I'm still flipping through it. I'll take a few pictures to taunt and torment those who dont have it. The paintings are absolutely beautiful. I kind of wish they had included more of Mitten's character development sketches but... to be honest, I always wish more character development work was included, all the time. XD

This book is lovely. I'll have more to say about it after I've poured over it more extensively.

Skeleton- good idea! I can't really help in terms of skeleton models, but in terms of reference, I have this excellent book called Evolution in Action by Jean-Baptiste De Panafieu [link] its a series of photographed skeletons from museums. it's pretty good.

Another reference book I have with good skeletal reference is The Book of Life Steven Jay Gould [link] but this is more for Dinosaurs and birds, it's still worth a look though.

Sorry I can't really help with the skeletal models; the desk-size skeletons sound awesome.

I gotta see Bolt, thanks for sharing!

fjdks those things are so COOL and I wish somewhere near here sold them. I love looking at them even in books.

fjdksgds -ENVY- I can't wait for pictures. I'm sad if there isn't much of Mittens in there, though, I loved her. D: But all the same. BOLT ARTBOOK.
I'm going to spend a ridiculous amount of time checking DA for journals until you post those. XD Thank you for taunting/enlightening those of us who don't have it.

Oooh, thank you very much! I am always on the hunt for good reference books. I have some lovely animal anatomy ones that I've been pouring over lately, but it is definitely lacking on dinosaurs and birds. My collect of human anatomy books always has room for one (or two or five or ten) more as well.

XD I've wanted one for about a year now, but only have seriously started shopping for it in the last two months or so. I don't know why it didn't occur to me, but I went to the hospital around here, and then went and drove around in the shopping blocks surrounding it, looking for shops that sold things for med students. XD

I may end up buying a skeleton from an online store, though. (There's certainly no shortage of them!) Since they have a much wider variety.

Still SO hard to find female skeletons though. I'd like a male and a female, although I can obv. make do with one. The differences in male/female skeletons aren't THAT big, you know? So I can obv. just edit it mentally, but it'd still be nice to have a pair to compare side by side.

er, *didn't occur to me at first. Sorry. My brain is mush at the moment. XD I did find a few good shops, to clarify, but I think I just have more options from an online seller.

That's okay, I knew what you meant. We all have our moments!

Ah, yeah, I think I'd prefer having a set of both also. I like the more elegant build of a female for certain concepts (no matter the gender of the subject) or the sturdier male; again, regardless of the gender I'm drawing, it all depends on the character in question.

Hey how are the development sketches for Rhino? Gawd, he had such an awesome simple design :)

Im not CRAZY, your all just too normal...

How to get more pageviews... [link]
:iconarborish:
There are more pages for him than Mittens! Like.. eight devoted just to that, I think? I was pleased and surprised. It was interesting/ They included more than I thought they would, (Though I hoped for these pages.) Some concept drawings, expressions and breakdown of his skeleton and muscles. I'm glad they didn't ignore the awesome and small.

We coulddd attach the needle to the pog and use it as a compass, since my sword doesn't work in the dark.

Oh. Well, I've got a bent needle. What can we combine with your sword and my needle? I might have a pog somewhere, too. It looks useless, but you never know with these sorts of things.
