Ambrose (the new computer) is kind of a jerk, but at least HP sent me a WORKING computer this time. XD
I have a dilemma. I have a love of languages, and want to learn ...quite a few of them. More than I probably can, even though I have a decent talent and memory for new languages. I do have it narrowed down to two that I'd like to learn first. The problem is choosing between them.
French and Japanese.
Japanese would probably be more practical. A very close friend of the family (might as well be an uncle) travels to japan often. His wife is Japanese. He and his son speak/are learning the language. My hangup here is that the most convenient way for me to learn looks like this site "Tell me more," and their Japanese language offer is much less complete than French.
French is much more just my own whimsy. I do plan on travelling, so either language would eventually be put to use, but I don't actually know anyone who speaks french personally. (Except my Canadian co-workers, who will shun me because it would be the less pure france french. SORRY GUYS. xD) Tell me more's french package is MUCH more complete, though, and I'm really prone to watching movies in french anyway, so I wouldn't get completely rusty out of disuse. (I don't know why. Movies in other languages appeal to me. xD I do also watch them in japense, but less often. also several others. )
I'm torn on which to choose.
Unrelated - I have been watching the Ninja Warrior marathon ALL day as I set up the computer/worked. Those men are insane. And I kind of hate how bad I feel for them when they fall. Haha, I get so into it, it's awful. XD "YOU CAN MAKE IT. YOU CAN DO IT." As if my holding my breath for these men/women really helps them. I don't even really do that with sports.
Mood lies, it wont change, pff.
Devious Comments
Personally, I'd learn Japanese first. Mind you, I'm like... super biased. *Loves Asian languages even though I suck at my own* ¦D
I'm actually on the old computer right now, though. XD I still have to transfer all my files and bookmarks. *cry* But the programs are done, which is the important thing. Sorry I left you hanging last night. XD I wasn't expecting the setup to be SO horrendous. I WAS COMFORTED BY THE THOUGHT THAT YOU WERE SUFFERING WITH A NEW COMPUTER, TOO.
Its possible that I'm letting internet idiots influence this choice. There are so many people that are all LOL ANIME I KNOW JAPANESE YAY YAY. I obviously am not interested in learning it because of that/for that/from that, and I try to not let it affect my opinion, but it might. XD
I suspect I PROBABLY want to learn japanese more, but the fact that the package for it is so much less thorough than the french one is also a factor.
I DONT KNOW. T_T Why am I not talented enough to learn them at the same time?! XD

Life is not about how fast you run, or how high you climb, but how well you bounce.
-comments on really old art because is often a lazy procrastinator.- (sorry. XD)
I totally forgot to export my bookmarks, so I have to go back and try and find my old bookmarks from memory. A lot of it was silly things like YouTube and the like. XD Oh wells. I TOO was comforted last night by the thoughts of you suffering with me with our new computers. 8D Damn new computers and resetting up everything. X3
Learning both at the same time might make you burn out, though. I suggest you focus on one and then to another just so that you don't confuse yourself with anything at all. 8D <3
One of the problems with that is also that Japanese isn't really in high demand here in Texas. It wasn't offered at any of the highschools around my areas (believe me, I checked.) And I was required to find 20 people who would want to take the class to get it brought to the school, which was... difficult, because I didn't attend any of those highschools. XD
There is ONE college around here that offers a class, but tell me more actually... seems like a great alternative. I wont be held back by someone else, and it isn't just cut and dried memorizing words, etc.
But our new computers are shiny and lovely. ;3; Cause suffering and pain, but shiny and lovely.

Either way, you might want to look into Pimsleur ([link]) as a supplement - it's just a bunch of audio tracks that ask you to repeat common phrases, and it definitely comes in Japanese and French. My brother downloaded heaps while he was learning Japanese/Chinese/Korean (idk orz) and it apparently helps. Not sure where he got it from, but it should be gettable on any torrents site...
And while the setup is always a pain, grats on the shiny new computer XD
If I was you I'd start off with ze simple francais 8D
It's pretty easy to learn, and it's sounds so damn sexyyyy

Bleh
I went to school at 8:00AM Friday.
kinyoubi no gogohachiji ni gakkoo e ikimashita.
Friday's AM8:00 at school at went.
D: But its really a nice language and the letters, kanji and hirigana especially, are so beautiful, and it feels more like drawing than writing. Katakana are rather ridiculous though. I dont bother to remember any more than the ones in my name. I can read them if I must, but I cant write them.
French, Ive never liked. On account of spelling and all the wierdo foreign sounds I probably couldn't twist my tongue into making.
BUT NEW COMPUTERS, OMG. Reinstlling everything is a bitch, but SO WORTH IT. Gosh, I would kill for a new new computer. <3 I dont have the luxury of getting a shiny one though; my "new" computer, last year, was a 2001 refurbished emachines running windows xp, and only half a gig of memory and 32 gigs HD space... ;-; Ive done filled him up and then some. ANd he cant handle much, BUT HE NEVER POOTS OUT. EVER. Hes old mr. reliable. <3

When people say you have a big head and then say they are joking, it is not because they have suddenly changed their mind. It is because they have suddenly realized that if they anger you, you might smash them with it.
