UPDATE: Added a few links. I will update my DA journal on big things, but I don't want to overload you guys with constant JONAHJONAHJONAH. Even if he's going to be a big center of my world for a good while, I know he may not exactly be the center of yours. I have a livejournal that I never use. Public posts will be made about Jonah whenever there is anything to post about, there. I've also created a twitter for thoughts and info about him.

You guys are amazing. So amazing. The support and love and prayers you've sent along for Jonah are just astonishing. We're humbled, and appreciate it so very much. Any little bit would help. If you can't afford to give a few dollars, prayers and happy thoughts are equally valuable to this sweet boy. We don't know how much his treatment will cost in the end. I do know it will be at least $55 every week, for an undetermined amount of time. I'll be paying for it out of money I'm saving for school. It's worth it, to me.

I apologize if this is tacky in any way, but I think it is worth it to post and ask.

My mother called me today and asked me if I would be willing to loan her some money. I agreed, and then found out why. She was sitting in the vet's office, close to tears. She was there for roughly five hours with a dog she found on the side of the highway. She didn't actually know if they could do anything for the baby, but wanted them to try. The vet told her that he has the worst case of mange they've ever seen. His immune system is shot. He's so malnourished that his body growth is far behind what it should be. He's covered in cuts, looks like he's been attacked, and doesn't respond very well to humans. He's a bit over 6 months old.

Mom brought him home, and he's going to need to go back every week for dips, therapy, treatment, etc. I thought I was prepared to see him, but I was still shocked. His legs are mostly bald. The skin is cracking and he's oozing blood in dozens of places. His paws are huge and swollen. The skin on top of his "ankle" area is cracked and bleeding, and looks like it cracks more with each step he takes. He has a gaping hole in his shoulder, his skin is flaking off. He smells a bit like rotting meat. The flies and ants were flocking to him as he stood in the yard, likely expecting something already dead to eat.

This poor baby is so tired and beat down and tender. He did give me a tiny wag with his little nub tail, and came up to me very slowly to let me pat him, but generally just seems very disinterested in life and the world right now. I don't blame him.

We can't keep him forever, but we absolutely will be seeing him through his treatments, and until he's healthy. If I gave my paypal, would anyone be at all interested in donating money for his treatments? Any little bit would help.

So there's... ... there's that. I don't know what else to say about him.

It kills me that humans are the ones who let this happen. It's our fault. There is so much of my time and my life that I wish I could devote to dogs. I want to do more.

Some people have bad habits - smoking, gambling. etc.
My mom and I rescue dogs. Can't help it. It's part of who we are.
